(Noyant-de-Touraine - France)

Château de brou

Located south of Tours, the Domaine de Brou offers an original and historic venue to organize an intimate and discreet wedding in Touraine. "Small weddings" are becoming fashionable not only for economic reasons, but because fewer people means more stylistic possibilities for unique and tailor-made celebrations...

Away from the main road to Chinon, the Château de Brou hides in a wooded massif of nearly 250 ac. In this enchanting environment, Château de Brou is a place steeped in history with 21st century’ comfort. Composed of a castle, a villa and a hunting lodge, Brou is the ideal place for a casual bride who is looking for an elegant wedding in the heart of the Loire Valley.

A discreet and small wedding venue with a thousand-year history

The current Château de Brou dates from the 15th century. It would be the work of a certain Marshal Boucicaut who wanted to replace an old medieval fortress. Today, there remains only one cylindrical tower and parts of the enclosing wall of the original constuction. The domain will then be owned by Gébert family from 1410 until 1813.

At the beginning of the 20th century, castle acquired a new function by becoming an orphanage with horticultural vocation under the impulse of Miss Ida of Acres de l’Aigle. Thus, Brou became an annex of the Sainte-Maure hospital during the First World War. On the death of her benefactress in 1966, sisters of the congregation “Dominicaines” who lived with Mademoiselle transformed the château into a Family House until 1996, when the sisters decided to put the castle in sale … Seduced by the place, Christian and Bernadette Girault acquire the domain with the ambition to open it to the public.

Thanks to the passion of the new owners, restorations are undertaken and they allow us today to take advantage of the domain of Brou. Indeed, workers, journeymen, stonemasons, painters and decorators, master glassmakers (successor of Tourangeau Lucien-Léopold Lobin) and the famous lighting designer Pierre Bideau – known for its lighting of the Eiffel Tower or Parthenon! – restored the domain while respecting its history and  regional environment.
